1 Jesus also said to His disciples, “There was a rich man who had a manager, and someone reported to him that the manager was wasting his possessions.
2 The master called him in and said to him, ‘What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your management, because you can no longer be my manager.’
3 The manager said to himself, ‘My master is dismissing me as manager. What will I do? I am not strong enough to dig, and I am ashamed to beg.
4 I know what I will do, so that when I am removed from my management, people will welcome me into their homes.’
5 So he called in each one who owed his master a debt. He asked the first one, ‘How much do you owe my master?’
6 He replied, ‘A hundred measures of olive oil.’ The manager said to him, ‘Take your bill, sit down quickly, and write fifty.’
7 Then he asked another, ‘How much do you owe?’ He answered, ‘A hundred measures of wheat.’ The manager said to him, ‘Take your bill and write eighty.’
8 The master commended the dishonest manager because he had acted shrewdly. For the children of this age are more shrewd in dealing with their own generation than the children of light.
9 I tell you, use worldly wealth to make friends for yourselves, so that when it is gone, they may welcome you into eternal dwellings.
10 Whoever is faithful in very little is also faithful in much; and whoever is dishonest in very little is also dishonest in much.
11 So if you have not been faithful with worldly wealth, who will entrust you with the true riches?
12 And if you have not been faithful with what belongs to someone else, who will give you what is your own?
13 No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
