Learn About Baptism
Welcome
Whether you have recently placed your faith in Jesus Christ or are still exploring what baptism means, we’re glad you’re here.
Baptism is one of the most meaningful steps in a Christian’s journey. At FaithLoop, our desire is to help you understand what the Bible teaches about baptism, answer your questions, pray with you, and walk alongside you as you prepare for this important step of faith.
What Is Baptism?
Baptism is an outward declaration of an inward faith in Jesus Christ.
When a person is baptized, they publicly declare that they have trusted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Baptism does not save us; rather, it is an act of obedience that follows salvation through faith in Christ.
Baptism symbolizes our union with Jesus Christ—His death, burial, and resurrection. As we are immersed in water and raised again, we proclaim that our old life has passed away and that we have been made new in Christ.
It is a joyful testimony of God’s grace and a public commitment to follow Jesus for the rest of our lives.
Why Be Baptized?
Jesus Himself commanded His followers to be baptized.
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
— Matthew 28:19–20
On the Day of Pentecost, when people believed the gospel, Peter called them to respond in faith through repentance and baptism.
“Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
— Acts 2:38
The Apostle Paul explains that baptism beautifully illustrates our identification with Christ.
“We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.”
— Romans 6:3–4
What Does Baptism Mean?
Baptism is a symbol of:
✝️ New Life – Leaving the old life behind and beginning a new life in Christ.
💧 Obedience – Following Jesus’ command with a willing heart.
❤️ Public Faith – Declaring before others that Jesus Christ is your Savior and Lord.
🌍 Belonging – Becoming part of the worldwide family of believers.
Who Should Be Baptized?
According to the Bible, baptism is for those who have personally placed their faith in Jesus Christ.
You may be ready if:
✅ You believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
✅ You have repented of your sins.
✅ You have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior.
✅ You desire to follow Him in obedience.
If you’re still exploring your faith or have questions, we’d be honored to walk with you as you seek God’s truth.
Common Questions
1. Does baptism save me?
No. Salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone (Ephesians 2:8–9). Baptism is an act of obedience that follows salvation.
2. Do I have to be baptized immediately?
The New Testament shows that many believers were baptized soon after coming to faith. We encourage you to understand the meaning of baptism and take this step when you are ready.
3. What if I was baptized as a baby?
Different Christian traditions understand infant baptism differently. FaithLoop encourages everyone to prayerfully study Scripture and seek God’s guidance. If you have questions about your previous baptism, we’d be happy to talk with you.
