However, many years passed, and Abraham and his wife Sarah still had no children.

Sarah had a servant named Hagar. Because she had waited so long for God’s promise, Sarah decided to solve the problem in her own way. She gave Hagar to Abraham, and Hagar later became pregnant and gave birth to a son named Ishmael.

However, this decision did not bring peace. Conflict and tension developed between Sarah and Hagar. Later, God fulfilled His promise and gave Sarah a son, Isaac.

As Isaac grew older, the tension within the family increased once again. Eventually, Abraham had to send Hagar and Ishmael away.

Hagar and her son wandered into the wilderness. When their water was gone, Hagar became desperate. Unable to bear watching her child die, she placed him under a bush and sat at a distance, weeping.

At that moment, God heard the boy’s cries.

The angel of God called to Hagar from heaven and said:

“Do not be afraid, for God has heard the voice of the boy where he is.”

Then God opened Hagar’s eyes, and she saw a well of water. Unfortunately, our efforts can sometimes make things more complicated. Have you ever experienced a situation in your life where relying on your own plans led to unexpected difficulties?

2.

When mistakes have already been made, people may respond by avoiding responsibility, shifting blame, or becoming indifferent, which can create even more consequences. Looking at the story of Sarah, Abraham, and Hagar, what lessons can we learn to help prevent the same mistakes from being repeated in our own lives?

3.

When Hagar and Ishmael were stranded in the wilderness with no hope in sight, did God abandon them because of human weakness and poor decisions? How does this story bring comfort and hope to us when we find ourselves facing the consequences of our own mistakes and feel trapped in difficult circumstances?

Sarah G.Genesis 16; 21:8–21 God had promised Abraham that he would become the father of a great nation.
