David Sends His Men to Nabal<\/p>\n
While David was in the wilderness, he heard that Nabal was shearing his sheep.<\/p>\n
Back in those days, sheep-shearing was a big occasion. It was something like harvest time or a festival. People usually prepared plenty of food and celebrated together.<\/p>\n
So David sent ten of his young men to Nabal.<\/p>\n
David told them:<\/p>\n
\u201cGo to Nabal and greet him for me.\u201d<\/p>\n
Then David told them to say:<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have been looking after your shepherds while they were with us in the wilderness. We never harmed them, and nothing belonging to you was lost while they were with us.\u201d<\/p>\n
What David meant was pretty simple:<\/p>\n
\u201cBrother, we\u2019ve treated each other pretty well. Today is a happy day for your household because you\u2019re shearing the sheep. So, how about sharing some food and drink with us?\u201d<\/p>\n
Honestly, it wasn’t an unreasonable request.<\/p>\n
But when Nabal heard David’s message, he immediately got angry.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat? Who is David? Who is this son of Jesse?\u201d<\/p>\n
